Licensing Applications for Business Premises
At AP Berkeley, our barristers specialize in advising on various licensing applications for business premises, including those related to the sale or supply of alcohol, opening hours, and entertainment purposes. We provide representation before local authority licensing committees and handle appeals to the Magistrates’ Court.
Fees
We operate on a fixed fee basis, ensuring transparency and predictability for our clients. Our fees are determined by an hourly rate multiplied by our estimate of the barrister’s engagement hours.
Below are estimated fee ranges for different stages of the case:
- Written advice on your application/proposed application: £500 to £2000
- Preparation including conferences with you, and assistance with drafting an application: £1000 to £4000
- Local authority licensing committee hearing: £500 to £8000
- Appeal to the Magistrates’ Court – initial hearing: £500 to £8000
- Appeal to the Magistrates’ Court – full hearing: £750 to £8000
Please note that these fees are estimates and may vary based on factors such as the barrister’s experience, the complexity of the case, and the amount of work required. All fees exclude VAT where applicable.
Timescales
The timescales for your case may vary depending on factors such as barristers’ availability, the complexity of your application, and the need for additional documents. Generally, written advice on your application will be provided within one to four weeks where possible. Hearing dates for local authority licensing committees are scheduled in advance, and our barristers will strive to represent you on your preferred hearing date whenever feasible. In the event that the local authority licensing committee rejects your application, appeals must be lodged with the Magistrates’ Court within 21 days.
